Sharing and backups

Choose the export that matches your goal. A readable transcript, a transferable conversation, and a full library backup preserve different things.

Action Best for What it contains
Export Transcript Reading or sharing text outside LLMster Markdown message text, reasoning, and tool details; image attachment counts rather than embedded image files.
Share Conversation Opening a chat in LLMster on another device A .llmster conversation with messages, images, reasoning, tool history, chat configuration, and continuation metadata.
Export All Chats Backing up or transferring the library Chats and folders, organization, pins, drafts, attachments, timestamps, and chat/model configuration, with optional password protection.

Open the chat’s Share actions from its toolbar or library context menu. Choose Share Conversation for a transferable file or Export Transcript for text, then save or share through the system interface.

Read the file contents as private conversation data. Hiding reasoning or tool calls in the chat view does not mean they are excluded from an export.

  1. Wait for responses and tool calls to finish, then open Settings → Utilities → Export All Chats.
  2. Choose whether to protect the backup with a password. If enabled, enter at least eight characters and confirm the same password.
  3. Export and save the file somewhere you can find independently of LLMster.
  4. Keep the password with your backup records if you enabled protection; it is required to unlock the backup.

Open Settings → Utilities → Import Chats and select a LLMster file, or open a supported file with LLMster from the system file interface. Review the preview before importing.

If asked whether this is the Same LM Studio Server, choose it only when you know the saved continuation belongs to that server. Transcript Only preserves the visible history without binding to that saved server context. An already imported conversation may offer Open Conversation instead.

Imported chats refresh model availability. If the saved model is no longer available, choose an available model before continuing.

  1. Back up the current library if you want to keep it.
  2. Use Import Chats to open the library backup. Enter its password if requested.
  3. Review the counts of chats, folders, messages, and attachments.
  4. Wait for local responses and tool calls to finish, then choose Replace Chat Library and review the confirmation.
